We respond to calls 24 hours a day and will attend the place of death, immediately if requested, to remove the deceased to our Chapel of Rest or to hospital if required. Funeral arrangement can be a distressing time but be assured that we are well established in Harrogate and the surrounding areas and most care environments will have had previous contact with us and be able to call us on your behalf. We attend to all the documents required by law; strong partnerships with local doctors, hospitals and the coroner’s office enable us to complete the necessary paperwork swiftly for all funeral arrangements.
We are able to assist in the repatriation of those who have died overseas or the return of those who have died while away from home within the UK. Our expert repatriation service will visit any hospital, funeral service or airport throughout the UK and deal with the necessary paperwork to enable the deceased safe return to our Chapel of Rest.
Should you wish to visit your loved one in our Chapel of Rest, at any time prior to the funeral, please just ask. An appointment can easily be made for you and there is no limit to the number of visits you may make. We do not make any charge for visits to the Chapel.
One of our small team of experienced Funeral Directors will meet with the family or friends that are organising the funeral. We can meet either at your home at a time convenient to you or if you would prefer to visit our premises, we are located in a residential area close to Harrogate town centre. At this meeting we can discuss your wishes for the funeral service; you will find more about the options available to you on our Meeting Your Needs page.
Many people leave clear instructions as to their wishes on cremation or burial; if you are unsure, we can discuss the options, the charges associated with these and also complete the paperwork on your behalf. If you require obituary notices, we can talk through how you wish these to be worded and place them on your behalf in local, national and international newspapers.
Every funeral arrangement is different and intensely personal in reflecting the deceased and their family and friends. Our Funeral Director will present the choices to you, while recognising the individuality of each service and offering our assistance with any specific arrangements or requests you may have.
Hubert Swainson has long-standing relationships with all the churches and clergymen in the district and we can arrange the use of a church or appoint a Minister of any denomination to take the service at the Crematorium Chapel or at the graveside. If you would rather have a non-religious service, this can be arranged on your behalf, with options including a Humanist Officiant or conducting the service yourself.
We will give you a full quote of our services to assist you in your preparations. This will include your choice of coffin, preparations for the funeral, use of cars and the payments we make on your behalf to churches, doctors, cremation and burial authorities. This quotation will not change unless you vary the instructions given and we will discuss any changes to your funeral arrangement with you directly.
